Series no longer works with FBReader and epub

For quite a few years now I've used Calibre with FBReader on Android and I could always view my books grouped by series, but that no longer works.
In Calibre seemingly nothing has changed, but FBReader no longer shows the Series information with books recently copied to my tablet.
As far as I could find out, Calibre changed the way it embeds the series information in the epub format a few versions back, so that FBReader no longer knows how to access this information.
My Current Version of Calibre is 2.74 but I think that problem goes back as far as one of the 2.6x versions.

Any Help here?

calibre has not changed how it stores series information in epub 2. It has started storing series information in epub 3 as per the epub standard, because the standard has added support for series. FBReader needs to be updated to follow the standard, or you need to do an epub to epub conversion in calibre, which will downconvert all your epubs to epub 2.

Thank you very much, the epub to epub conversion did help.
And a short investigation at fbreader's web site revealed they don't support the epub3 standard fully. Which leaves an additional question:
How do I know if an epub file is v2 or v3? I couldn't find anything in Calibre and neither in FBReader.

calibre does not care about versions of EPUB files, so it does not expose this information. You can always use the calibre editor to open the epub file, then opent he OPF file inside the EPUB file and look for the version declaration inthe <package> tag near the top of the file.

Is is possible that Calibre could start to tell epub2 from epub3? I like to keep all my books on epub2 and having to check them all individually adds up quickly.

This is the kind of feature that belongs in a plugin -- perhaps the quality check plugin.

Hi, I have the same issue.

I use calibre to import books on my PC and then send them to my tablet (Xperia Tablet Z) where I read them with FBReader. For most of the book series I have, some books of the series are properly put by FBReader in the serie, some others book of the serie are not.

Is there anything special I have to do in Calibre (or in FBReader) ?

Do an epub to epub conversion in calibre making sure the epub version is set to 2 in the epub output section of the conversion dialog, and you will be fine.

I tried (before posting my previous comment in this topic) and I think it didn't work. I checked my .epub files (as you explained) and they already seem to be epub2.

Anyway, will try again as soon as possible and report.

Forgot to say, thanks for Calibre, it's great !

Hi,

just tried that again, doesn't work.
I hae a serie with 14 books, first 10 gets transferred fine and shows un in FBReader as belonging to the same serie, but the last 4 are not show in the serie.

It seems to behave erratically: one series I manage to upload all fine, but only if I upload the ebooks one by one.
