Cybook with standard html files
Hello:
I have a Sony Prs505 and continuallly struggle with the Sony book site. The prices are higher than many other sites and it rattles my chains that I can't read those purchased books on any of my other devices. I have many html books that I have had for years...so, I have to also keep my Nokia 770 on which I read the htmls in FBreader. I am considering buying a Cybook because the product info claims to be able to read both Mobipocket and html. So, basically Mobi for future purchases - and html for my current library. I am really counting on the html working well. Can anyone tell me what their experience has been? Thanks, Coz |

No, HTML support is pretty basic. Improvements are promised for the next firmware release, but obviously nobody knows what that's going to be like.
It does, however, take literally seconds to convert HTML into MobiPocket format, and that works very well indeed. |

Calibre's html2lrf works pretty well too, and doesn't require new hardware :P

I agree with igorsk!
Coz--you should try Calibre. It'll convert your html files to Sony's lrf format very easily. dordale ![]() |

See calibre e-book management. This used to be called libprs500.

Might be time to get my eyes checked again...I see all kind of info about coversion tools but I don't actually see where I can download them. Also, I run windows vista 64 bit...I hope that is not a bad thing (again).
Can you tell me where in that link I need to look? Thanks, Coz |

See the "Get calibre" link. However, it apparently does not work with 64-bit windows.

Wow, that 64 bit, like a bad penny, keeps showing up! I have a few other computers at home that I tinker with. I may have to break down and put one of those back together. I will figure something out.
Thanks, coz |

I doubt Iron Python will work. As for 64-bit Windows, I beleive you can't use Calibre to upload files to the Reader (no libusb drivers for 64 bit) but the file conversion should work fine.

IMO Calibre depends on too much low-level Python things (like Qt) for it to work in IronPython as-is.

in any case iron python is based on python 2.4. calibre needs python 2.5. And if you have a 505 all the features of calibre should work on 64 bit vista. There have been some reports of crashes, that I can't debug as I dont have a 64bit machine, so YMMV
