What's going on with the DX? The new low price is nice, but it is very outdated. Will it ever be updated?

The Kindle DX ended years ago.

The Kindle DX-G (which replaced the DX) is no longer available as a new item. Apparently, the stock has run out. (That is a guess.)

The Kindle DX-G, however, is a number of years old and the firmware also has not been updated in a number of years.

There are dedicated fans of the DX-G, of which I am one - among many.

Who knows? Only Amazon, and they're not saying. I suspect they are manufacturing small batches of the things now and again, but aren't selling enough to justify ever updating it.

I'm confused by the link in the article. It goes to Amazon, the DXG appears to be available to purchase from the link, but when I do an Amazon search, the DXG doesn't appear to be in stock? I was able to put one in my cart from the link in the article.

Probably because the one linked in the article is the version for international shipment? I'd guess it doesn't show up in searches from the US as the "regular' version would as they didn't want to confuse customers by having two versions show up in search back when they sold it both ways.

I have an account with Amazon.US.

I'm currently in Peru, however.

Don't really see it as strange. Whether Amazon thinks your in the US or Peru I'm sure you could buy it just fine, I'm just guessing they keep this one from appearing in search results for a US account in order to avoid confusion with the regular DXG that has a power adapter (AFAIK that's the only difference between the 'regular' on and this one).

I would guess they are just finding more unsold stock from years ago buried in the back of the warehouses.

Why would they manufacture new batches, how do they justify it reagrdless of whether they update it???

There is "can still sell them" and then there is "can sell enough to make it worth going into production".

If it was worth their time to do more production runs, it would also be worth their time to resume the product line. But there doesn't seem to be enough demand.

Selling old stock is always worth it, since the alternative is trashing it.

"Very outdated" It works fine, in what way is it outdated? I love mine. The only thing I would like is quicker page turns, a pretty small nit.

It does, indeed, 'work' fine, but it's PDF capabilities are very limited. For someone who may be interested in reading in that format, they MAY be disappointed.

I don't read PDFs, so I encounter no problems.

I use mine when I want to sit down with the idea of holding something like a hardback in my hands.

Most ebook readers have moved on to touch screens. This old ebook reader does not have a touch screen. That may be disconcerting for some people, but for other people it may be a blessing.

It's a nice, cozy old-fashioned ebook reader with old-fashioned technology about 4 or 5 years old, made for old-fashioned people who like old-fashioned things. That would be me - but only sometimes, because I'm a bright flame burning heavenward in technological orgasmic bliss.
