Duplicate books
Hi there Chaley!
This is the new thread about the duplicate books (orig thread here). I've noticed it happening to a few authors. For example, Nelson DeMille. I have Nelsom DeMille listed in my authors column as "Nelson Demille". No capitalized "M" on his last name. The format came from Calibre's own metadata downloader. When I pushed the books to CC, It generated two directories. One named "Nelson Demille" and one "Nelson DeMille". "DeMille" is the correct form of the name, but since all of my books of him are written as "Demille", I don't know why CC capitalized the letter. Another author was Jeanne DuPrau. Although it only happened to one of his books. CC created two directories: "Jeanne Duprau" and "Jeanne DuPrau". I forgot the other one. I just deleted the name formats that didn't match the one on my library. This is the template that I use for the file names and folders: Code:
{author_sort}/{series}{series_index:0>3.2f| | - }{title} - {authors} Regards, Harold |

Probably the author sort value in calibre differs from the author value but only in letter case, which calibre thinks is OK. For example, almost certainly some books have an author sort of "Nelson DeMille" and others "Nelson Demille". Because the Android file system is case sensitive, the difference matters.
While testing I discovered that the edit metadata dialog will not show you letter case differences. For example, Assume an author "Nelson Demille". The author_sort box will show "Nelson Demille" even if the database really contains ""Nelson DeMille". You cannot see the case difference, but it is there. I am discussing this with Kovid to see if this behavior is intentional. One way to find books where the author sort differs from what it should be only by case is to use the quality check plugin. The option Check metadata/Check author sort will mark all the books where author sort differs from what it "should" be, even if only by case. |
