PRS-T1 newbie, choosing firmware versions possible?

I'm expecting a PRS-T1 any day now. It will be my first eReader. After a bit of research it sounds like I may want to update the firmware from what I will assume is whatever it was originally shipped with because the seller says it's basically brand new and reset to origianl settings.. Is there a way to update to specific firmware releases? It seems some users have regretted the most recent updates. I won't likely be using the Kobo store. I will probably mostly use the public library and also load text and PDF files of my own creation. Advice??? Maybe don't bother with any updates if I don't experience problems? Which firmware update created the ability to have Recently Read to the home page? I might consider that, or just use the SQtrigger hack I read about.

A lot of reads, but no reply yet. I found this site that allows downloads of different firmware:

https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/PRST...grade#Firmware

The instructions look pretty straightforward.

Do I need to update the firmware one release at at time or can I skip to later updates from the original? I'll search more to see if I can find answers to which updates are the most reliable and or desirable.

I'll have a look a my T1 and see what version firmware is on it. I've no trouble with it.

The newest firmware is available on Sony's support website.

http://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-...3#/downloadTab

When I got my T2 I just went to Sony for the firmware update. Now, if you want to downgrade your firmware, that will be a different story.

(You'll have to select an Operating System to see the files, but the firmware is the same no matter what OS you're using.)

EDIT: Well, at least I assumed it didn't matter. When I chose OSX it didn't give me a drop-down for the firmware(?). Just choose one of the Windows' versions, then you'll get to choose the firmware download.

Wasn't the latest T1 firmware version made unrootable? Does the SQtrigger hack need root privileges? If you want to root the device, spend some time first making sure an upgrade won't spoil that.
