Welcome to the Ereader Fashion Show
To all of the people who read in the bathroom, who read on the bus, who read on the train, who read in the doctor's office, who read on break at work, who read while not on break at work, who read simply because the idea of not reading is too much to bear.
There once was a time when books were huge, weighty things. We bought them for their stories, but also for their visual appeal. They smelled wonderful, looked wonderful, and lined along four walls in a small house gave the illusion that one was in a library. Those days are slipping away. And after several moves I welcome the change. Having an E-Ink reader has been so convenient that it was easy to let go of the physical in favor of the digital. But while the conveniences were worth donating a thousand paperback books to the local library I find myself desperate to recreate the book experience. I won't go back to paper, but I do miss it. I'm only human, after all. And so I bring you the Ereader Fashion Show. Showcased below is my favorite of all the Ereaders. The Sony PRS-T1. Combining two covers, and buying skins from Decal Girl it gives me the bookish feel I'm looking for. Granted, the cost of doing this exceeds the value of an older Ereader, but a bibliomaniac's madness knows no reason. Let me know your thoughts. Post your own pictures if you like. Now if only I could recreate that new book smell. Dead trees, book glue, and whatever else they used to make a book stay together was always a wonderful thing to smell. Merry Christmas!!!! ![]() |

It does look really lovely! But: while I love the look of the opened ebook, aren't all those colours and images rather distracting from the simple page?

Not really. Maybe sometimes. But the colors are in the shapes of books so I forgive it. I might have gone for a more muted look, but the picture on the inside of the book cover came from my wife so it had to go in there.

I'd find that horribly distracting. A plain black cover every time for me.

Have you got a link for that, TM?
Here are some more "book smell" products if the OP can't get the one you recommend: http://ebookfriendly.com/book-smell-perfumes-candles/ |

I got both covers from Amazon. The leather one is from a company within Amazon called "A Little Present". If you search "A little present", and make sure the prime button is selected. It'll bring up a bunch of these amazing covers. The other one is a sony lighted cover also from amazon. I cut off the cover portion so that it was essentially a holder for the reader, and then with Velcro I fixed it into the leather cover.
The cover takes about a day to bend into shape where it'll close properly, but the strap kept it closed long enough for it to work. Now where can I get this can of New Book Smell? ![]() |

Thanks for the link, Harry. Now to see about making the book reader smell like a book without actually being a book.

It was a Google image. I don't think it's real. The linked website doesn't have any information on where to get this "supposed product".

![]() I've also found another one since posting the previous link. There's a very expensive perfume called "paper passion", for anyone who wants to make themselves smell like a dusty old library ![]() http://www.amazon.co.uk/Paper-Passio.../dp/3869305010 |

I took a knife to those flimsy corner straps. I hate them as well. Cutting them out gave me a flat surface to work to use Velcro on.

I bought a package of small velcro patches from Walmart in the fabric section. It cost me perhaps three dollars. But I didn't use glue. The adhesive on the velcro was strong enough to hold the sony book cover onto the leather book cover. But you could apply glue to the velcro to add extra stickiness to the adhesive. Do that only if you don't to remove the velcro from the sony cover to move the reader to a new cover should the leather one fail in any way.
