Kindle Fire as a Digital Photo Frame
I would appreciate any recommendations and experiences.
Would like for a Kindle Fire to sit on the table showing pictures until someone needs it to do something else. Not looking for any kind of theme -- just a continuous photo show. Prefer the photos are on the Fire, but would be OK with cloud storage -- no DLNA. |

I have. Very disappointing selection. Considering sideloading one. May even go Nexus or iPad for this. Just looking for someone who might be doing this who is very satisfied with their solution.
The user has shunned tech for 70+ years, but loves her digital frame (watches it like TV) and I was hoping that a screen with just a few apps would lure her into email and skype. |

Of course the Fire has a 'slideshow' feature, and it looks like you can restrict that to an 'Album'. But the transitions are all that stupid 'Ken Burns' thing (actually just random panning without any zoom in or out, so not even 'Ken Burns'), nothing else.
It does not appear that you can create Albums on the Fire, but you can do it in Amazon Cloud Drive (assuming you upload photos there). Create Folders in 'All Files', and then you can copy or move photos into those folders. Then those will show up as Albums in the Cloud Drive tab, and you can download them so you can view them offline, and they'll show up as Albums in the Device tab, and you can add to Favorites (Home). So not pretty, but it does work. Last edited by tomsem; 12-11-2014 at 02:11 AM. |

I think, in the end, the best solution is going to be a Windows 8 tablet or convertible with full Windows installation using a photo slide show screensaver and never dim power management plan with shortcuts for skype and email on an otherwise empty start screen.
