Creating collections under author names on a paper white?

Can I create collections on a paper white using calibre on a Mac or just directly create collections using a Mac or
Can it only be done directly on a kindle?

You can create collections from calibre using the Kindle Collections plugin. Note that this requires a component on the Kindle itself, namely, either the Collections Manager kindlet or the LibrarianSync KUAL extension.
Both require the jailbreak.
