Is the M96C screen a little bit darker than the M96?

Can anyone out there compare these two?

....and perhaps how they might relate the quality of any of the two devices above with my Kindle DX-G?

Thanks.

Yes man, in my opinion it is darker than original M96.
Why? Because of the capacitive touchscreen of course, which adds an additional layer to screen.
You can get the best clarity only from infrared and inductive(with stylus) screens. But it seems that Onyx doesn't really wanna invest any money in developing the brand new infrared touchscreens for 9.7 inch readers. Of course, it's easier to sell a 2010 year technology with stylus, or make the "upgrade" with capacitive touch, which means a step back, in 2015 year, compare to infrared.

With my T1, the infrared isn't accurate enough to write with normal size characters. The writing has to be quite big to be legible. Has infrared technology improved over the last two or three years to be able to handle ordinary sized handwriting, or is it still necessary to use something like a Wacom sensor for that?

Well, you have to choose then- the best clarity of screen, or handwriting. I'm basically reading with my e-book.

I've just ordered an M96C, and will be able to directly compare it with my M96 in a couple of days.

Excellent.

I look forward to your comparison of these two screens.

I've had the M96C for a couple of days, and while I like the touch feature, the M96C is not perfect.

If nothing else, touch makes selecting words for dictionary lookup usable.

As to screen brightness, it's tough to get a decent shot of the screens, as the position relative to lighting makes as much difference as anything else. Here's the best I could do.

[Image violates guidelines for size - MODERATOR]

While the screen isn't much dimmer than the M96, it is a little more yellow, and the contrast is slightly less.

You can also see the cosmetic difference - no more reflective border. When I used it outside, I always managed to get a spear of sunlight reflected into my eyes, so that's a good thing, IMHO.

And the M96C on the left also illustrates an intensely annoying feature of the M96C - there is no way that I could find to get rid of 1/2" tall status bar that wastes screen space on every page with Cool Reader and the Onyx readers. Infuriating!

Also, some programs operate differently - with CoolReader, the Next Page and Previous Page buttons are reversed, and, of course, the Full Page option does not work to get rid of the Annoying Status Bar.

I realize that the Onyx guys are probably working hard on the Android Kit-Kat upgrade, but not being able to get rid of the Status bar is Really Annoying...

These days 600x600 is a very small image. Perhaps 800x600 would be a better maximum image size for the forum, particularly since the images are hosted off-site and taking up no disk space...

You may take this up in the FEEDBACK Forum, if you wish.
