Kobo Aura H2O coming to Japan!
I'm totally gutted. I didn't expect this would ever come to Japan (the Aura HD didn't) and I just went to the Japan site and found that starting Oct 31st they had a pre-order campaign for the first 300 customers which included a 5,000 yen coupon for the Kobo store (almost a $50 discount right there) and now they're sold out!!! And the worst thing is that the pre-orders get their delivery mid-December and everyone else is out of luck until next spring! Gahh! I could almost cry!

What really gets me is the pre-order limit of 300 people. Not being able to get $50 worth of coupons is disappointing but I can live with that. But I still want to be able to order a ereader! Could you imagine if Amazon had limited their Voyage preorders to 300 people and then said to everyone else 'you'll have to wait until the spring'? Unbelievable!

When will these be generally available?
Thinking I can order from Rakuten (or a reshipper) to me in Korea. |

Does the H2O actually support Japanese?
In the tech specs it's listed under languages, but when I had someone open a sample document (Harry Potter EPUB3 sample from pottermore.com) it came up empty, no characters displayed at all. source Would've bought it too if it had worked; ChainLP is an alternative, but native support would be so much cooler. |

IIRC Japanese tategaki and EPUB3 are not supported by the Adobe epub renderer, but only in Kobo's renderer (ACCESS). You need to convert the epub to kepub using Calibre. I just did that with the file you provided and it displays properly on the H2O.

Actually, there is no need to convert or even to rename the epub. It works out of the box, displaying the text vertically and with furigana. The only thing one has to do is to select a Japanese font. With this kind of epub, the software decides itself to use the appropriate renderer.

@tshering: Is this font something that comes with the device, or did you install it yourself?
Could you make a picture of a page or two? |

Edit: The images are taken on a Kobo Touch. But the software is the same on all Kobo ereaders. Edit2: Without converting to kepub you cannot use the dictionary, nor make notes. Last edited by tshering; 12-05-2014 at 06:38 PM. |

The ePub 3 ample also seems to work in ADE 2.01 for Windows.
