LEGO® City: Cops, Crocs, and Crooks! by Kenny Kiernan & Trey King is a tie-in children's picture story book to one of the currently on-sale lines of the popular Danish toy building brick franchise, free courtesy of publisher Scholastic.

Words cannot express my disappointment that rather than being in the expected LEGO® toy style like The Brick Testament†, these are done with cartoon line drawings of LEGO® figures. That's like completely missing the point of having LEGO® storybooks promoting the LEGO® building brick story sets, of which apparently the others in the LEGO® City book series explore toy infrastructure* like the railroad system and mining construction and Christmas city-ornamentation, all of which apparently exist as accompanying LEGO® City toy sets.

Also, they really do use the ® after every use of the word LEGO® within the actual story text of the books I sampled.

Currently free to pre-order @ Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK) & Google Play (available to Canadians), slated for January 27th, 2015.

This was going to be the 3rd selected (non-repeat) book thread of the day until I saw the interiors of the others in the series.

If you're not going to make LEGO® stories out of actual LEGO® figures or at least reasonable CGI approximations thereof, why even bother?! It's like they're not even trying to make a decent tie-in to their pre-existing building brick toy line which they could have been using to build the stories out of.

Another exciting and hilarious adventure, featuring the newest LEGO(R) theme!

* And apparently this one might involve the toy infrastructure of law enforcement, the deep-diving search-and-rescue operation, and the sewer gators. I hope there's a thrilling tunnel chase where the crooks and/or cops just barely manage to outrace the croco-gators like Sean Connery in that Bond movie (Live and Let Die, I think it was).

† I'm just going to note for the benefit of the Gentle Reader who may or may not be in charge of the kiddies that The Brick Testament, while a fine and educational work of great creativity and entertainment value which I would ordinarily highly recommend, contains content which may not be suitable for the more sensitive Gentle Reader's notions of what may be suitable for the kiddies, considering that it's based on The Bible, which is traditionally chock-full of one-on-one murder, repeated genocide, and sexual assaults, among other unpleasantries‡, and TBT does not expurgate.

So, if you were thinking of turning the kiddies loose on The Brick Testament's website on the grounds of "Ooh, LEGO® is for kids! And it's the Bible, they can learn useful things for Sunday school!", you might want to re-think that idea.
