Share Kindle 'notes' via Calibre ?
I have a Kindle Touch. My Brother has an early keyboard Kindle.
He proof reads my books for me - reading through for typos etc. If he adds a note (say, typo) to each sentence he discovers with an error ... is there any way he can share those notes with me if I have the same .mobi draft of the book on my kindle ? or if I use Kindle on my iMac ? |

The Annotations plugin can import the annotations from a Kindle device into either the comments column or into a custom column. He should be able to import the annotations and copy the text in the column and send it to you. There is now way to put it back on your device, but it shows the selected text, the chapter and the annotation added, so hopefully there is enough to find the error.

Unfortunately not. The annotations are extracted put into some HTML so that they are displayed nicely. Going to any device or application isn't really possible.

Ok. Still. He could annotate the complete paragraph where the error occurs ... and I could then use the search function in Scrivener to track it down. May still be useful.

Thinking about how the plugin works, there is another possibility. For the Kindle devices, it reads a file called "My Clippings.txt". If he sends you that, you should get enough info to track down the problems. And it's possible that if you copy that to your Kindle, it will show the annotations in your device. I have a feeling that something else is needed, but it is worth trying. It does require that the book file names are the same on both devices. I don't have a Kindle device, so I can't test this. |

An idea..... though he is at the limit of his capability even using Calibre
![]() I might post this Q to the Annotate plugin forum ... would that upset the mods ? |

As there are a couple of possibilities including using the Annotations plugin, it's not an unreasonable place. But, you might want to check the Kindle forum in case someone there has some ideas. My knowledge of Kindles is fairly limited.

The Kindle stores annotations in sidecar files next to the book, named {book_name}.mbp1 -- transfer those together with the book, and the Kindle will recognize the annotations data. AFAIK these should be compatible with any Kindle. On newer devices, the .mbp1 will go in a folder called {book_name}.sdr/ together with the .apnx (page numbers) and .phl (public highlights), the X-Ray data, etc.
AZW3 books use .azw3r and .azw3f for annotations instead. My Clippings.txt is totally different -- it is a logfile and every time you make a note or highlight or bookmark data is appended. One consequence is it still contains annotations that have been deleted. The Kindle itself does not parse My Clippings.txt to find out the annotations. ![]() |
