Direct shortcut to book in Calibre
I keep some reference books in Calibre. It would be really helpful for quick research if I could create individual shortcuts on my desktop that would go directly to each of these books without having to start Calibre and choose them each time. Is this possible?
Thanks. |

What operating system are you using on the machine running calibre?
If it is windows then make a shortcut to calibre's ebook reader for each book. The shortcut would contain something like Code:
"C:\Program Files\Calibre2\ebook-viewer.exe" "C:\Users\charles\Desktop\debug\Verne, Jules\20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.mobi" |

@garrry - In Windows I would do this :
Ensure the formats in question are associated with a program for Open file, eg PDF with Acrobat, MOBI with Mobipocket Reader, EPUB with calibre's ebook-viewer, etc. For each book, open book folder (press 'o'), right button drag required format file to desktop, let button go, select Create Shortcut(s) here. You need to lose this idea that you keep books "in Calibre". The books are in a folder somewhere on your computer. Calibre is a great program for listing and editing them. It's got a fairly lousy reader though! If they're epubs, you could associate them with ADE. A double-click on the file (or on a shortcut to it, placed on your Desktop) will then open it.

There's an optional calibre PI called Open With that provides the wherewithal to open file types in alternate programs (including jpeg for the editing of covers), its similar in function to the Windows Open With, with the added feature that they can be given keyboard shortcuts, I have Sigil in there shortcutted to Shift/S «filched from theducks ![]() BR |

I did modify some, as I had PSP8 and some others. Nice thing about the OW PI is you can have multiple programs setup for a single book (file) type, great for testing how it looks wit 'X' |

Aaah but the stock default refers to the 64bit version (until recently that version wasn't obviously available from the Sigil site - 'tis now it's at GIT) so I have Sigil 32bit. I'm 99% sure you posted you had Sigil shortcutted to shift/S, which saw me do the same - so as far as I'm concerned you can take the blame credit
