How do others manage two authors with identical names?

I am wondering how to go about handling the three or four authors that have identical names in my library. The author link is the same for both but that is kind of weird. I hesitate to change the author name as it screws up metadata downloads lol.

If you right-click the author name in Book Details, you can Manage Authors and change the link.

What does Wikipedia show for those authors? I'd think a disambiguation page...

That changes the link for all of the authors. I guess I'll default on using the goodreads link which lists all the books by the author so both authors show up and I can go to the author information from a book link.

After the metadata is downloaded before clicking done, I would assign a middle initial to each of those authors with the same name. If even that happens to be the same, use the middle initial for one, the middle full name for the other.

You could also just put a word that describes the type of book they write. For example I have my James Patterson books like this....

Patterson - Cross
Patterson - Private
Patterson - WMClub
Patterson - Miss

I haven't run across this in Calibre. In the database that I use for my paper books, I put a (I) or (II) after the name (and a 1 or 2 after the name in the sort field).

Actually I found putting the link on the authors to goodreads works well. That link shows all the books on Goodreads by that author name. It lets me choose a book by the author in question and go to the author bio.

I thought about using initials etc but then realized for the few times this happens, I can just manage it when saving books to my "transfer to sd card library" on an author by author case.
