Galaxy Note 8

Hi all,

Hope someone can help. My Note 8 has been draining the battery lately. It was fully charged this am around 8:30. It is now 4:49 and I'm at 42% battery. The thing has not been used all day. Just sitting idle. When I check running apps, nothing is showing running. Is there a way I can find out what is draining the battery or do I have to reset the thing to like new?

Try GSam battery monitor. It should give you an idea of what's draining your battery.

Thanks Canuck. Installed the app but it's not showing that any app is using a lot of battery.

What version of Android? If it's KitKat you can check what running in background. When the battery is draining.

You don't need any app.
Verify "Settings / Battery", you will find something like what you can see in the screen-copy below.
Android 4.4.2.

It's version 4.2.2. I believe that is Jelly Bean.

The battery is not showing any app really consuming a lot of power. I went through and deleted some app. Some others I did a Force Stop on.

My battery is showing right now:

Google Play services - 65%
Screen - 14%
Internet - 8%
com.amazon.kindle - 3%
SlotsPharaohsWay - 3%
Android System - 2%
Device idle - 2%

I can understand it draining if I am using it, but it drains a lot even when I am not using it.

Does your tablet drain fast even when not using it?

This seems weird....my device idle time says 33%. Isn't that a lot?

Look to Me like Google Play services is the culprit. Uninstall it and reboot it should redownload a fresh copy. My guess is it corrupted.

There is not an option to uninstall.

I have:

1-Force stop
2-Uninstall updates
3-Turn off

There are also options to clear data and cache

OK Did that . Not showing 51%. That still seems high doesn't it.

Went back a 2nd time and uninstalled the updates for:

Google:
Play Services
Play Books
Play Movies & TV
Play Newstand
Play Store

restarted. Installed the updates. Restarted again. Play Services are still showing 50% but it may not be eating the battery like before. Will see.

Thanks. I think uninstalling and re-installing the updates did the trick. The battery has been pretty stable (knock on wood)
