Question Big front lit e-ink reader with a web browser

Hello,

I wanna know what big (8 inches or more) front lit e-ink reader with front light and a web browser (I know it won't be a great web browser).

Another Q: do the web browser allow text chat?

Thanks.

As far as I know, there are no front lit 8" e-ink devices. The closest you're going to get is the Kobo Aura H2O (current model) and Aura HD (recent model) that are 6.8". I have an Aura HD and am very pleased with it.

Thx, but I currently came to know that there's an Onyx M96, yet I wanted to know if there is more to compare with.

I believe the PocketBook InkPad 840 is also front lit as well as the color screen version of the same product.

You can't compare with the M96 - there isn't a light on it.

I was referring to this post. The M96 has no light, so you can't do a comparison.

AFAIK, the lighting system tech is currently too poor for use on e-ink devices of that size.

The biggest device with a really good backlight that I know of is the Onyx T68 (6.8"), but the touch accuracy is... poor, unless you're lucky with what you receive.

I am also not counting future devices, as Onyx are asking what the successor to the M96 should be like, and backlit is a major response.

So perhaps next year there will be 9.7" devices that are backlit.

There are several 8" devices with front lights that have shipped (backlights are not possible in E Ink or any EPD device). Check Front light in our wiki for details.

Out of curiosity: why a heavily compromised e-ink device of this size with a web browser rather than an LCD/LED backlit large format tablet?

why not? ;-)

Seriously though, anything that involves lots of reading online, a nice large e-ink device is perfect.

Wikipedia + e-ink = mobile, easy to read encyclopedia

Plus all writing sites not needing to be downloaded, converted and then stored on the device...

It's a win-win to me
