Battery life issue
Hi all, anyone have an issue with battery life? I have a PW2, fw 5.4.3.2, with jb/KUAL/screensaver hack/collections manager. Recently the battery started draining very quickly, i. e. charged during the day on Saturday and Monday afternoon was down to 23%. Had not read anything, it had been on the screensaver the whole time and the backlight was at 0.

Depending on use patterns (depth of discharge, frequency of re-charge, price of tea in China) their storage capacity can degrade, and perhaps faster than expected. So what you are seeing may be "normal" - What is your nominal temperature where the device is kept? How old is the device? How often do you recharge it? How low do you let the capacity fall before you recharge it? What are you recharging it with (slow: USB port, fast: wall charger)? How often and long do you use it over what period of time between recharges? Indexer related questions (*)- How many books are on it? Have you added, removed, or reorganized them recently? (*) the kindle is normally very close to off (most of it is powered down, not running) - Even while reading a book (it wakes to turn the page, or when the beer gets warm). But the indexer and anything else that keeps it "awake" more than usual will show in the time between when a recharge is required. The Kindle has about 4 hours of "runtime" on a good, full capacity, fully charged battery and you are seeing 2 days. Last edited by knc1; 11-19-2014 at 08:57 AM. |

a year(-ish) old. Maybe 18 months I let it drop until I see the low battery warning Wall Depends. Sometimes I won't pick it up for a week or two. Sometimes I'm on it every day. Quote:

@seadad9903-
As knc1 noted, indexing can chew through battery life. Check to see if your PW is still indexing...this is usually caused by a problem book that you have added. If it is, delete the problem book file and reload it. |

The display of the screensaver does not indicate internal system activity. You would have to check the kernel log at about that time to see if it went to sleep or suspend. An example of what to look for (will vary with kernel version, build, etc) Code:

How can I check the kernel log?
Checked for indexing books, there were quite a few. I'm going to delete them and add a few at a time Last edited by seadad9903; 11-19-2014 at 10:39 AM. |

Do you have USBnetworking package installed?
or Do you have kTerm package installed? - - - - - Some firmwares have a "magic search key" to copy the logs into the user storage - I don't have a PW2, running 5.4.3.2 - Anyone else know what it is (or might be) on that device? |

There's no need to take the matter any further, that being the case. Indexing will drain the battery like crazy. Personally I always leave my Kindle connected to the wall charger while it's indexing.
