CBR Title/author/metadata not syncing with Calibre

I am running an Android tablet with Kitkat, the latest version of CC and the latest version of Moonreader Pro. CBR and CBZ are checked in CC in the Formats and Folders section. All books are on the SD card in the KitKat appropriate directory and are accessible, and were first "saved to a single directory" in Calibre and then copied to the SD card directory. CC was then synced to Calibre and everything went perfectly with all books except the CBR and CBZ comics and childrens books.

The Comics appear in the CC directory only as a letter/number code of about 6 or 7 digits, unique for each comic. The comics can be opened normally in Moonreader by clicking read in CC, but you can't tell which is which because there is no title/author/series/cover or any other metadata which are all present in Calibre.

It may be that Calibre can't write metadata to the CBR file and CC only reads the metadata from the book file and therefore it can't be done, but if I am missing something, I would love to solve the problem.

Thanks very much for your help and indulgence.

Just one other detail

I went back and using the Content Server connection, I downloaded a single CBR. The cover, series, and everything else is there. It therefore must be a problem with either having CC sync the books when connecting as a wireless device and the book files not connecting with their counterparts in Calibre to download the metadata.

I did it the way I did because the CBR files are pretty big and I thought it would be faster to only connect the data and not have to wirelessly download a couple hundred comics over the network. On the other hand, I guess all it would take it time.

So, do I have to start over from scratch, or is there a fix?

You answered your own question.

The process you used, save to disk, copy to device, connect CC, scan for new books; depends on the book having sufficient embedded metadata for calibre to match the book on the device to the library. Reason: neither CC nor calibre know where the book came from. As far as they are concerned the books fell out of the sky. In your case, it appears that calibre could not match the books, so they ended up with being named as you described.

The correct process is connect CC as a wireless device and send the book from calibre, or (as you discovered) connect to the content server and pull the book to the device.

There are two ways for you to fix this.

1) Connect as a wireless device, switch to the device view, find one of the unmatched books (the "In Library" column will not be checked). Right-click on the book and choose "Match book to library". Enter the correct title (the one in the calibre library) into the search box, press search, and choose the right book. You might want to note which number is which book before starting this process.

2) Delete the books from CC, connect as a wireless device, and resend them from calibre. You can do this in one calibre operation. Yes, it might take a while, but you don't need to watch it. And in any event, it might actually be faster than matching the books individually.

Thanks

Thanks, Chaley.

I had come to the same conclusion and I'm grateful that you have confirmed it. CC is a brilliant program and I recommend it everywhere.
