				Narration Feedback

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I figured I'd go ahead and try, if it's not please let me know where to put it. I'm trying to go into the audiobook narration business, and I'm just trying to get feedback from people on pacing, voice, etc. In this, I tried to keep things at a conversational pace (me personally, I hate slow narrators), and put as much emotion into it as I could discern from the text. Any feedback would be fantastic!! https://app.box.com/s/vza1dw6lfuxodx26on5h Last edited by jhempel24; 11-11-2014 at 01:44 AM. |

Well for one thing you might want to post your sample at someplace where the listener doesn't need to know the username and password in order to access the file. With something like Mediafire for example I think you just need to post the actual link. Or maybe have those who might be interested in hearing it PM you for the access information.

Overall, I found the narration well-paced and easy to understand. No comprehension problems or anything, and nothing that outright bugged me. (That's always a good sign!) It doesn't feel all the way professional to me though, and I'm having a hard time figuring out why. It may have to do with the recording quality. I can hear a sort of hissing/hollow effect in the background (or at least, I imagine I do) and the overall impression is a tad tinny. Also, I noticed that leading and ending consonants of words aren't enunciated as clearly as they could be. This didn't cause a comprehension problem - I could understand each word just fine. But it also didn't feel as crisp and clear as it could have been, and I think those consonants might be part of the reason. Please note that I am by no means a voice professional, and there's no guarantee that my feedback sound. |

Thanks so much for your feedback! I think the lack of consonant sounds at the end are just my way of talking in general and that should probably change for narration. Not sure about the tinny sound, but then again, the high pass noise can come from different types of speakers. On my laptop speakers and my recording headphones it's pretty full, but it wouldn't surprise me to find that it is a little bit. I definitely won't have that "random house audio" studio quality to it, I don't have the money for that nice of a studio I'm hoping to get as close as possible. Although I've heard some really crappy recordings on audible and I hope mine doesn't compare to that! LOL. I've got 3 or 4 stories that I'm contracted to do with royalty shares which is nice, but the audio sample is a first crack and a full novel. I appreciate the feedback, every little bit helps!! |

I haven't downloaded this yet, but I thought that narration could be slowed down or speeded up, in order to suit one's taste.

In a lot of audiobook software you can do that. Audible is one of them. At least you can speed it up, I don't know about slowing down. Although on a Windows Phone you CANNOT do that for some reason. |
