Hi
I've used this forum's 'search' function but could not find the answer I am after. When doing a factory reset, this does not actually remove information completely (it is still on your device). Is there a way that is known to completely remove all information properly? I have just bought a PW2 (waiting for it to arrive!) and I'm thinking of selling my K4. Thanks |

Doing a factory reset and deregistering it is sufficient.

Normally, a factory reset does remove all content, and resets everything just like it was when you first bought it. Not registered any more, too.

So doing a factory reset does not actually permanently delete content. |

Forget the Wifi Password: Settings>WiFi Networks>Forget
If all of your books were from amazon, then they are tied to your account, if not, just install ccleaner and use the 'wipe free space' tool on your kindles drive. |

True, but how many people do you think are that concerned about it? If anyone wants to "undelete" my books and read them, they're very welcome to do so.

I really doubt anyone purchasing your Kindle would be interested in your wifi password. If you really find that to be a concern, just change the password after you sell it.

And, I am pretty sure the WiFi password is in the hidden system partition, which would require jailbreaking and probably imaging the system drive, so you can do something like this: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/file_recovery and pray to the G-d of your choice that the block location has not in the meantime been overwritten. That's right -- in the natural use of a filesystem, the block location of deleted files gets recycled, because otherwise there'd be little point of deleting them. ![]() Restoring deleted files is potluck, there are companies making a living off forensic data recovery. |
