A tad off the subject here:

I picked up my new kindle basic about two weeks ago and its a speed deemon compared to my old paper white, which is having some issues. It appears that the basic is faster than the paper white and as a paper white owner I am a bit steemed by this fact.

Amazon should put in a beefier processor in the PW and Voyage. Well for next year.

I've never used the Kindle basic, but I've read in other threads that it is faster by far. That is sort of odd, but I suppose the features that make the Voyage, and the PW2 what they are use system resources that would account for the difference in speed ?

The only two ereaders I've had hands on experience with are the Voyage and the H20, and with that being my only exposure to an ereader, I cannot see where faster than those is useful.

No they are running essentially the same firmware with the same features. The lower resolution puts less of a computational load on the processor.
