This is a last ditch effort to keep my original Voyage, which has a great screen and I really like a lot. Before I ask my question, let me say that I think the firmware on my Voyage has been corrupted...
Ok, so assuming my firmware has been corrupted, would simply updating the firmware fix the problem? I guess what I'm asking is, does Amazon "patch" the existing firmware on a Kindle when they upgrade it, or do they completely replace it? Obviously, I'd like to entirely replace my firmware because I think that might fix my problem. My thought is to download a Voyage update, and then sideload it onto my eReader. I just checked, and it doesn't look like Amazon has made any firmware updates available, for the Voyage, yet. But when they do, is it possible that I could fix my own Voyage by sideloading a firmware update? The reason this has come up, is that Amazon sent me a replacement Voyage but I like the screen on my old Voyage. As a result, I'd like to keep my old Voyage, if it's at all possible. I'm thinking it's not possible, but I'd like to find out from you people, since you're all so smart, before I return my old Voyage to Amazon. ![]() |

Why do you think that it is corrupted?

All recent firmware updates have been complete "system images", not patches.
But given the fact that this is the initial shipping firmware, there won't be an update version of it available. |

I get a lot of Application Errors, and my Kindle locks up, and goes to a white screen, quite often. These problems seem intermittent during continued use during the day, but I can count on having to do a 20 second reboot every morning... after my Kindle has been sitting around, unused, for an extended period of time.
Amazon wants me to send my Kindle back, so their engineers can have a look at it, which I'm fine with... but I LIKE the screen on my old one! (I can live with my new Voyage if I have to, but the screen on my old one is sharper, whiter, and has more contrast.) |

I know nobody knows the answer to this question... but, generally speaking, how long are we likely to have to wait until Amazon updates the Voyage firmware? A week? A month? A year? |

Well, I would send back the 1st one, then use the 2nd for a week and see if the color "grows" on you. If, after a week, you still don't like the color, request a replacement. That is just my 2¢, I'm no expert

If there's an update to fix a serious issue, I'd say about 2-3 weeks.
If there's no serious issue, then probably in 3-4 months. Of course, I have absolutely no idea what I am talking about. |

I am not indicating this because I have a case of Schadensfreude, or because I dare, worm that I am, have a different opinion than yours, but because it might be useful for others. They can also just believe you and happily load and experiment Active Content app for all I care. ![]() |

I will try another Factory Reset... it didn't work last time. Maybe it will this time...
Meanwhile, I just sent the CS guy that I've been dealing with an email... I'm requesting that he send me the original update files via email. (Or however.) I doubt he'll be able to help me, but you never know. It's worth a try! I suspect I'm hosed! I have no idea what the problem is, I just know that I'd prefer to fix my old Voyage... than accept the new one. I believe it's fixable by somebody that has the required software tools, and knows what they're doing. Somebody like one of the Amazon engineers, but that ain't me! EDIT: Could we please not argue? I'm thankful for both your help! ![]() Last edited by MickeyMark; 11-04-2014 at 10:34 AM. |

I'm not disagreeing with you! I just know, from long experience, that CS reps generally haven't got a clue what they're talking about. I've asked the question in the dev forum, so we can see what people who DO know what they're talking about (unlike CS reps) think.
