New Kobo desktop app not compatible

I have a Kobo original that was working just fine and when I recently connected to my desktop to download new books for an upcoming trip, I had a pop-up to update my desktop app. I mistakenly did so. The new app gives me an error message that it will not work with my current operating system (Mac OS 10.5.8). I know I have an older system but it works well for me and I will loose lots of software if I update to a new Mac OS. But in the process of updating the Kobo ware I have lost the functionality of my Kobo ereader. Is there any way to get the OLDER Kobo desktop app back or to download it anywhere? I contacted Kobo customer service and more or less got a "too bad, so sad" response. Do I now own a electronic piece of junk? Thanks for any help you can offer.

There's a Mac version of Desktop available at http://rakuten.kobosetup.com/ I do not know the release number of this version but the Windows version available from the same page dates from January 2014.

Thank you so much. This seems to have done the trick. I was worried at first when the site was in characters (Chinese, I am guessing) but it restored my use of my Kobo. Thank you Alastair. May your enjoyment of reading never end! :-)
