Hacking a Kindle DX for pdfs etc.
Hi everyone, just acquired a Kindle DX graphite which I've been meaning to get for a while.
I find all the information regarding hacking a kindle dx rather daunting. Basically I really want the kindle dx for pdf viewing usually of scanned books. I have a few things I'd like to do. 1) Make the kindle dx a decent and fast pdf reader 2) Learn how scan books and/or then format PDFs so that the written pages use as much of the 9 inch screen as possible. (I have adobe acrobat pro) 3) Enable the kindle to skip to pages further in the pdf and perhaps bookmarks? (I discovered it actually does this already!) 4) Stop the page rotating when I move the kindle dx around (i.e. I don't want the gravity thing to activate). 5) De-junk any kindle software and make the device truly mine. If anyone could give me some pointers I'd appreciate it! Last edited by pfenig; 10-25-2014 at 03:28 PM. |

The KDX might be decent, but it'll never be fast - it doesn't have CPU power nor enough RAM for proper caching.
You might want to look at kindlepdfviewer (KPV), https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=157047 Note that its development has essentially stopped, all development effort is now focused on Koreader, https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=209276 Koreader has few developers that actually own KDX or K2/K3 devices, but we have reports that the newest codebase should work on KDX. That would be in the next nightly build then, I think. There's also Kai771's great "Librerator" software, a fork of KPV: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=198742 |
