Problem with highlighting on the H2O

Today I started going through a text book and discovered that trying to highlight more that 2.5 words words makes my H20 reboot, every time. Thinking that it was the textbook I tried this in other books. It still happened every single time. So I did a factory reset and it still is happening.

I would have thought that this would be a software bug.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

What type of book? PDF, ePub or kEpub?
What f/w on the H2O?

Both Kepub and ePub, I haven't tried any pdf's. Firmware 3.7 and 3.8

Highlights cannot be made in PDFs anyway, only read, which is odd...

Just tried on a sideloaded epub on my H20 running 3.8, no issues. Highlighted a full paragraph just to make sure.

I've highlighted half a page by accident and seen no reboots. Tried a factory reset?

Just to be sure...

There's a known crash and reboot when trying to remove bookmarks by tapping in the upper right corner in FW 3.8.0.

But you are not talking about it, aren't you? Your problem is with word/paragraph highlighting, isn't it?

...highlighted a few lines of text yesterday on my h2o, no problem.. just checked the annotations and it is still there...

aspr: You are correct I am not talking about removing highlights. I am talking about making highlights (which right now means I can't annotate anything)

So, you can select one word OK. And dragging the finger to the second is OK. But, dragging to the third and the device will crash? Does this also happen if you use the handles to adjust the selection after selecting only one word? What happens if you drag up or down to select words on multiple lines?

You said epubs and kepubs. Are the kepubs sideloaded or purchased? Can you try an epub from the MR library? These are well constructed and allows others to test the same book easily.

Are the any stack_nn.log files in the .kobo directory of the device? Depending on the crash, the firmware will create these. If there are and the timestamps match when the highlighting crashes happened, post them and we can make sure Kobo see them. They might also want a book that demonstrates the problem. If it happens for a purchased kepub, the URL in the shop is enough. Or the URL of a book in the MR library also works.

It happens with the ePub and KePub.

As far as books from kobo. "International Human Resource Design" by John P. Wilson
My sideloaded ePub and KePub both crash on highlighting, But the direct download from Kobo does not.

My extra CSS for conversion is:

@page { margin: 5pt;}
body { orphans: 1; widows: 1 }

I hope some of this helps. I will try books from the MR library shortly.

Have you tested with the new 3.11? Maybe the problem is gone in the new FW.

I have had a quick look at them. At a glance, they refer to the same error. I'll pass them on. But, they might want a book.

As you are sideloading from calibre, could you run calibre in debug mode, send a book and post the log? There is something poking at the back of my brain and it says to look at the log.

This is with a kepub that's made from a Calibre plugin. Maybe that's the problem.

Can you highlight kepub with a true kepub downloaded directly from Kobo?
