NOSTALGIA THREAD: Do you still use/have your old Kindle 1?
There have been some threads on this before, but I'm just curious.
The idea of merely replacing a battery and also having a card slot on this old reader must still be attractive.....? I still have my Kindle 2, which works perfectly, but I never use it anymore. Are you wearing your tinfoil hat? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Dr. Drib; 09-24-2014 at 11:16 AM. |

I also have a Kindle 2 that I don't use. I make sure it's charged though and occasionally I like to play around with it, download some new books, compare it to my PW1, just get a little nostalgic about it.

I still use my Kindle 2 regularly*, and finished a book on it just yesterday before starting another. It would be nice to have more room on it, but I've gotten used to rotating files in and out.
Of course, both my e-readers are terribly out of date, but they still do the job they were meant to do and I don't particularly need any of the new features which have been popping up (not to mention, my K2 still has text-to-speech and free 3G, which I gather the newer low-cost models don't), so I'm very unlikely to upgrade in the forseeable future. * Sometimes I get books from Amazon that I'm just too lazy to bother going through the hassle of converting for my Sony. Also, the greater use of navigation buttons rather than touchscreen make it a better read-in-a-plastic-baggie rainy day transit choice. |

I still have my K1 and it still works fine. Well aside from some connection issues. It seems to have issues calling home. I grab it sometimes to read something on it, but not often. But I have to say that every time I put it in my hands, I am reminded how ergonomic the device is. It fits in my hands like it was melded in there and the easy of changing pages was just such a pleasure. I have bad wrists and hands and still to this day, that kindle has been the most comfortable. I thought it was brilliantly designed for reading. I know many hated the shape, but the wedge just works better for me.
Now everything has to be so thin that it hurts my hands after a while, even after adding this and that cover. And of course there is the magical sparkly bar that goes up and down. Has anyone ever decided what exactly that thing is? ![]() Reminds me I need to charge all my older devices up again. |

I still have my K1 & K2 .... I too was fascinated by the sparkly side bar ... and the little wheel ... but to this day remain completely baffled by the original case made for it ...

I no longer have my K1. In 2012 I moved about 1400 miles and purged many many things to condense my belongings into 2 5x8 pods. I gave the K1 to a friend for his wife. I loved it at the time but moved up to a K3/Keyboard.
In hindsight, I think I preferred the thicker form of the K1. All these newer thinner devices flat out require a case or cover of some sort in order to comfortably hold without my hand cramping. |

I still have my K2. I keep it charged, but I haven't used it in ages. I've been contemplating selling it, but I think the shipping would cost more than it's worth.

I joined the game with a K3. I must say though, the K1 is a ghastly design nightmare. What a hideous monstrosity! If I had one of those, I'd be ashamed to show it in public.

Never had a K1, I had just bought a Sony 505 like a month before the Kindle launched so wasn't in the market. Still have my K2us and while it doesn't get much use I do occasionally use it to loan books to a couple of friends.

I still have my K1, also my Kindle Keyboard and my DX, but now I only read on my PW and on the Kindle app on my Nexus. Well, verrrry occasionally on the DX.

My husband still reads daily on his K1. I have mine, too, but seldom use it any more, as I prefer my K3.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be misleading. My first Kindle was a Kindle 2. I never owned a Kindle 1, but I've always wanted one - even now, which is absolutely crazy and makes no sense at all! I heard, however, that the batteries were quite easy to change out. |

I still have a Kindle 1. Never used it - it was solely so I could download Amazon books and DRM them. (I've never figured out how to use the DRM tools for the newer versions of Kindle/K4PC).
