Problem with opening a Google book in ADE 2.0

Has anyone had this problem? I purchased a book from Google ("Knight" by Pierre Pevel), but every time I try to open the .acsm file with ADE 2.0, I get the following error:

Unable to download.
Error getting license. License server communication problem:
E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TYPE_UNKNOWN

I've purchased books from Google before (also from Kobo, Diesel etc.) and never had this error. I should complain to Google, yes?

My first guess would have been a compatibly issue with the now old ade 2.

Re-download the .ascm file from google, make sure you save it as Knight.ascm, remember where you saved it to, then right click on Knight.ascm and open it in using ADE.

Remember to always to rename .ascm files when you download them. I.E. kobo uses the same file name--URLLink.acsm--for all .ascm files.

Unfortunately renaming didn't help. Tried ADE 1.7 on the old laptop, no luck there either. Interestingly, ADE 1.7 gave me a network error, not the license error. Also tried deauthorizing/reauthorizing, no results.
I'll try to contact Google now.

It's happened to me on a few occasions over the years, I always just opened ADE through the start menu every so often and close it again (it will ask you if you want to cancel downloads or similar, say yes), try this every half hour or so and it eventually goes away and cancels it. After this message stops appearing it works as usual again.
