Error detecting Kindle HDX 7 to Calibre on my Mac
Hello, I'm hoping someone might be able to provide some assistance.
I have a Kindle HDX 7 connected via USB to my Mac, which is running Calibre. I can select books and even click "Send to Device" but the books don't transfer and it always results in an error. Any idea what the problem is and how to fix it so I can send books to my Kindle? If I can't get Calibre to connect and transfer books should I look into using Calibre Companion? If I use CC would the books show up in the Kindle under the native program? Thank you and I appreciate and help. |

Regarding USB: it would be helpful if you posted the error. You should also try the usual remedies: rebooting all devices and changing USB cables.
Regarding CC: try the free demo version to see if it does what you want. |

Sorry I wasn't able to post the error earlier (was not by my computer). Calibre detects the Fire and when I attempt to send to device I get the following error
calibre, version 2.63.0 ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device Failed to get storage info for device. Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/device.py", line 87, in run File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/device.py", line 584, in _upload_books File "site-packages/calibre/devices/mtp/driver.py", line 408, in upload_books File "site-packages/calibre/devices/mtp/base.py", line 24, in synchronizer File "site-packages/calibre/devices/mtp/unix/driver.py", line 328, in free_space MTPError: Failed to get storage info for device. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you |

Make sure your device is not being opened by another program such as the android file transfer program.

Maybe that is it because the android transfer program automatically opens when the device connects. I will keep it from opening and try this out. Thanks and I'll reply back.

I disabled the Android Transfer program but get the following error
calibre, version 2.63.0 ERROR: Error: Error communicating with device Failed to upload file named: driveinfo.calibre to (u'Internal storage',): 2:PTP Layer error 2002: send_file_object_info(): Could not send object info. 2:Error 2002: PTP: General Error Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/device.py", line 87, in run File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/device.py", line 503, in _books File "site-packages/calibre/devices/mtp/driver.py", line 216, in books File "site-packages/calibre/devices/mtp/driver.py", line 188, in get_driveinfo File "site-packages/calibre/devices/mtp/driver.py", line 178, in _update_drive_info File "site-packages/calibre/devices/mtp/driver.py", line 149, in put_calibre_file File "site-packages/calibre/devices/mtp/base.py", line 24, in synchronizer File "site-packages/calibre/devices/mtp/unix/driver.py", line 375, in put_file DeviceError: Failed to upload file named: driveinfo.calibre to (u'Internal storage',): 2:PTP Layer error 2002: send_file_object_info(): Could not send object info. 2:Error 2002: PTP: General Error Nothing I do seems to allow Caliber to send books to the Kindle. Any other ideas? Thank you! |

you need to put the device in MTP mode (or make it look like a standard drive) |

That's an error writing a file to the device -- nothing calibre can do about that. You can try resetting the device, or use one of the wireless transfer methods.

Thank you. I'll try wireless.
