Advanced search for Multiple Authors?

Hello fellow readers,

I have the advanced Search function mapped to the"F4" button that pops it up - using the centre tab (Title/author/series...)

I'd like to know how to search for two (or more) authors in the author field. I've tried searching but nothing has come up. I've tried all sorts of things - authors separated by certain symbols etc, but nothing has worked.

Thx muchly.

My saved search looks like this in the search bar:
authors:#>1

That's an interesting function but not really what I'm other. Thx though.

Lets say I want to serach for two authors using the Adv. Search box.

Lee Child and Steven Gould as examples

There must be something to separate them to make the search function look for both?

Lee Child, Steven Gould (Doesn't work)
Lee Child; Steven Gould (Doesn't work)
Lee Child: Steven Gould (Doesn't work)
Lee Child# Steven Gould (Doesn't work)

There is also a dropdown box in Adv. Search that offers 3 selections. Perhaps one of these needs to be selected - although none of the above eg's do the job.

Code:
Authors:=Lee Child and authors:=Steven Gould
you don't need advanced search

To see a LIVE sample of how multiple searches work :
Open the Tag browser (if closed)

Expand Authors: C : Click Lee Childs:

HOLD the control key
Expand (authors) 'G' : Click Steven Gould
you can now let up on the control key

The search box is a working example of a 2 author search

That's a good way of sussing it out. Gee...I'm learning so much I didn't know about Calibre

The above code doesn't work in Adv, Search anyway - as it adds the author field in front of it auto-magically. Also I found I need the quotations marks to get a return

Code:
authors:"=Lee Child" or authors:"=Steven Gould"
Much appreciated

You may need to use the button on the bottom.

Alter Tag Browser ==> Search type when selecting multiple items ==>
  • Match any of the items
  • Match all of the items

Toggles between linking terms with "and" vs. linking with "or"

Thx for pointing that out. I rarely use the tag browser - too many things to scroll through I'm slowly getting to the bottom of my list of things to sort out.

@Chris_Snow - the '—' button at the top of the Tag browser will collapse all category trees

If that includes learning all the byways, flyovers, and avenues of calibre... forget it... I suspect there are quiet lanes that even Kovid has forgotten

You can mix and with or, but to save trying to remember the precedence rules I suggest you bracket them, as in:

Code:
(tag:="bill" or tag:"=invoice") and (#status:="unpaid")
My Alter Tag Browser button, is crying out for a keyboard shortcut
