Cannot copy and paste
Since 2.0x64 I can no longer copy text from outside and paste into for instance the comments area, series, author etc. Using windows 7.
I do not want to uninstall again to 1.48. Be gentle I'm old. |

@faniediv - working for me, in calibre 2.2 64-bit on Windows 7
I presume the copy from external source is working, i.e. you can paste what you copy into notepad. You shouldn't need to downgrade to 1.48, you could try upgrading to 2.2 Do you have any clipboard enhancement utilities installed - if so try disabling it/them. How do you do the paste, with the mouse and right clicking or with a ctrl/v If you use a mouse to do paste then this issue may be related - 2.1 - Right Click (frequently) not working - in one instance it was an Android Emulator (Handy Andy) causing the problem BR Last edited by BetterRed; 09-06-2014 at 04:49 AM. |

Thanks for the response.
I'm currently on 2.2 x64 OK, this is what happens: On the mouse button "Paste and match style" does not work. Paste with mouse and ctrl/v works in the "comments" area but will not paste at all even ctrl/v in the series, author or title fields. When using paste in comments area, it is copied with source formatting, making it unusable. I can paste into notepad, from there to the comments area, allowing me to loose the formatting from the original source. But still cannot paste into the series/author/title fields. This happened immediately after upgrading to 2.0 and it works fine when going back to 1.48. Same problem going up to 2.2. The problem is definitely to do with the upgraded calibre on my computer. I have no clipboard enhancement. Just checked with CCleaner if maybe there is something I did not realise. Nothing |

I can confirm *something* is not right. Calibre 2.2, Ubuntu Linux 12.04. Just tried to copy a couple of words from viewer (highlight, right click, copy) into metadata editor. Doesn't work and neither does a paste into Linux text editor. This did work prior to 2.0

The X11 protocol has no support for keeping copied data itself. Therefore, you have to run some application that acts as a clipboard manager, storing data itself and making it available to other X11 applications on demand.

True. The X11 design approach was always to have many windows open at once -- henc ebig virtual desktops with edge-flipping in window managers that were otherwise frightfully primitive by any modern standard.
If you want to save yourself a couple of steps, though, do as Kovid suggests, but simply select (highlight) the text, then switch to your new window and just click the middle mouse button to paste. You can't use this to replace text (it'll paste only what's currently selected) and you have to be careful with mouse placement because it'll paste right at the mouse cursor, but there's no need for right-clicks and menus. X11 certainly has its drawbacks, but it was designed with a very quick cut-and-paste mechanism. Akin |

I just did a some tests, I didn't find anything that didn't meet my expectations, I did discover that the results depend on the source - some sources seem to scrub the text (e.g. my firefox & chrome browsers), whereas the others don't (e.g calibre viewer). See attachment for one test I did, I repeated the test on 1.48 and I couldn't discern any difference in behaviour or results. Added a 2nd one showing a cut and paste into title & author I suggest you either terminate any other software that's running, including what's in the tray, and/or try running calibre in Safe Mode. Thank you BetterRed, as usual from you a nice comprehensive answer.
Yes it is clear that this problem is unique to my setup. No one else has this problem. I have stopped all possible services and programs, but not tried calibre in safe mode. For now I'm going back to 1.48 which works perfectly on my computer. Thanks again |

And do give Safe Boot a try, just in case its some 3rd party s/w lurking under the covers as a driver. You can initiate a Safe Boot via the msconfig utility. Quote:
Another thing you could try, is to install the portable version of 2.2, and point it at the same library. Why would you do that? You would be using a pristine configuration folder. I hate unresolved problems ![]() BR |
