Paperwhite 2 & Calibre

I find that some e-books I did not get from amazon.com do not appear on my Paperwhite 2 when I try to transfer them using Calibre. I have no such problem transferring them to my Kindle Keyboard. The latest example is The Nature of Things by Lucretius, which I downloaded in .azw format from manybooks.net. I transferred it to my KK with no problem, but although Calibre marks the book as transferred to my Paperwhite, it does not appear with All Items selected. I searched my items for it in vain. I tried converting it from .azw to .azw3, but that did not work, either. I don't understand why the Paperwhite should not accept these files as KK does.

Thanks. I'll try those recommendations. I don't understand, though, why the Paperwhite should be slower at indexing than the Kindle Keyboard.

It isn't slower - it's a lot faster. Have you checked to see if anything's got stuck indexing? That can happen occasionally.

I know how to search My Items using a meaningless string of letters in my KK to check whether a book is stuck indexing, but the only option I see in my Paperwhite is to search everywhere, & doing that gets a quick reply that it wasn't found.
