calibre 2.1/2.0 refuses to start
Hi,
I'm using calibre with two libraries: one on my iMac with 10.9.4 (to edit some tags) and one on TimeCapsule (TC). Till now (<2.0) it was possible to close calibre during I worked with the TC-lib. If I forgot to connect the TC before I started calibre the next time I was asked which library should be connected - perfect. After the installation of 2.0 and 2.1 everything was fine - since yerstday: I've forgotten to switch back to the local library before closing calibre ... Today I wasn't able to start calibre - without or with connection to TC - there is no question which library should be connected. There is only the error massage, that's all. ![]() Thanks for some ideas! LaNa BTW: The error message is now behind the start image - not the best solution. |

Simply move the error message o the front and click OK on it, you will then have the opportunity to select a new location for the library.

The error message is the following:
Traceback (most recent call last): File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/main.py", line 143, in get_library_path File "lib/python2.7/os.py", line 150, in makedirs File "lib/python2.7/os.py", line 157, in makedirs OSError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/Volumes/Data/Shared The connection to the TC works well and there are no new defined permission. When I click OK the message windows is closed without further action. |

A permission denied error is just that, the OS is telling calibre it does not have permission to read your library files. If for some reason the choose new library path dialog is not opening on your computer, you can start calibre from Terminal.app like this:
/Applications/calibre.app/Contents/MacOS/calibre --with-library "/path/to/some/working/library" |
