To sleep or shut down?

Hello, I have recently purchased a Kobo Aura HD and have a question. When I am done my days reading is it better to put it to sleep or to shut it down?

I know this May sound silly, but if have Macs and virtually all Mac users I know tell me that sleep is a better way to end the day than shut down....something to do with the files .....

Now I know that the manual seems to say either is fine and it is just about time , but I can't help but wonder why many of my Mac owner friends insist on sleep over shut down ..... Maybe just the nature of the OS. Just wondering what everyone else does?

Sleep doesn't use much more power than power off and the instant wakeup on the book you were reading is handy. One warning is to turn off the autosync feature which can be a battery hog.

This sums it up nicely. If you feel better shutting it completely down all the time it won't hurt anything (the OS is much more limited than a full computer has). But you don't give up very much in battery life and instant on is great, so I'd go with sleep it.

My experience is pretty much the exact opposite. I found that even with WiFi & the light always off that I was losing 2-4% a day when it was in sleep mode for several days uninterrupted. Now I have it set to power off after 2 hours and I'm not seeing the battery drops between power off/on events.

My T1 shuts off if I have not used it in two days. I think that's a good setting if the Kobo can do such.

I usually sleep my devices. The only time they are powered off is if I accidentally power it off instead of sleeping it.

In the settings (I'm running 3.3.0 - I expect 3.8.0 is the same) there is a "Light, sleep, and power" section, which has an option governing when the device will automatically sleep (5, 10, 15, 30, 45, 60, or Never). There is also an option governing when it will automatically power off (5, 10, 15, 30, 45, 60, or Never). The values are in minutes.

I have my Aura and H2O set to auto sleep in 15 minutes, and auto power off is set to Never.

I would set 30 minutes as sometimes I get interrupted during reading and I find that the T1's 10 minutes is not always enough time.

I may have to pull the plug and pre-order the H2O. It's got a lot of features I'd like to have as well as the higher resolution, the larger and new Carta screen.

I always sleep it (using the sleep cover)
The power switch doesn't seem solid enough for me.Not sure how long it will hold (if i turn it off and on on a daily basis)
No official KOBO customer service available in my country so troubleshooting will be difficult.

If you wont be using your device for a relatively long period (e.g. days or weeks),just shut it.

I always use the sleep function with the cover magnet, I never turn my device off. I would if I knew I wouldn't be using it for a while, but that never happens. It would moreover bother me a lot to wait for a minute or so every morning in the train before starting to read.

I have the sleep cover an so when I close the cover my Glo goes to sleep. But then I have it set to power down after 30 minutes of sleep. It only takes about 15 seconds to power on when I next want to read, so start-up isn't as bad as some people might suggest. I find that doing it this way my battery lasts the longest and the regular reboots keeps silly things from happening.
