Collections issue

I have a friend who has a Kindle Touch. She sideloads most of her eBooks and has some collections she's made. The last time she bought an eBook from Amazon and downloaded it to the Kindle, the collections were removed. The eBooks were still loaded, but no more collections.

So how does she create her own collections and keep them when she goes to buy an eBook from Amazon?

The Touch isn't burdened with the Cloud Collections mess^Wfeature, so, that's definitely weird. I guess there's still the old importing (from another device) process in place, but that should only trigger on register (or when manually called?), IIRC.

All of the decent third-party Collection-handling tools for the K5 work (or can work) with a two-step process, so even if gremlins eat the data, it's always recoverable.

With the vanilla tools, besides keeping wireless off, no idea (but, again, that's not something that should happen out of the blue on FW 5.3).
