Help with saving to disk problem.
I just downloaded Calibre and I have an issue when I save my files to disk. It saves the author as ln, fn and it does the same with the book titles that start with an article. It saves them like "Hunger Games, The". I would like the author's name to be stored as "fn ln" and the titles to be stored as "The Hunger Games". How do I change these setting? I'm sorry if this question has been asked before but I really couldn't find anything to solve my problem.

@Natia67 - what value do you have Preferences->Save to disk->Save template
I think something like {authors} - {title} should give what you want, there are a number of preconfigured templates in the drop down list. BR |

I changed it to that but now it doesn't save my files to a folder. Before it stored the author's "ln, fn" and then inside was a folder that had the book title. Now it just saves just the book format.

Save to disk does not affect the LIBRARY folder. That is fixed (see the FAQ).
STD is for devices that look like drives, but Calibre can't del with as a device (for many device/connection reasons) There are Preferences: Tweaks dealing with 'Library order' (what you see) or strict alphabetical. |

If not then if you tell us precisely what you want we might be able to furnish you with the template. But, if you can create the template yourself, by building on the 'samples' provided, together with the list of variables you see there, then you will learn the basics of 'templates', which are widely used elsewhere in calibre. In the screen grab of BetterRed's message prior to this one, notice that he also has Update metadata in saved copies unchecked. You also want this or Calibre will modify your eBooks every time you save to disk. You really don't want that.

My guess is most folks leave the Update metadata in saved copies box checked, I know I do. This ensures that all of the metadata I have taken the time to update is now in the book I Saved to disk. For the casual user whose collection are primarily novels leaving the box checked does no harm and often ensures they will not run into surprises if they use the books directly from this archive because the metadata will be exactly what they expect it to be. There are certain situations where an individual wouldn't want the metadata embedded in the Save to disk copy but these situations are unique to the individuals that require their saved books to be unaltered. As an example those who may choose to publish their books or if you have reference journals or science papers that you don't want cluttered with metadata. ![]() My books are commercial fiction, actually, just "books" will suffice, which means some dirty publisher got at them and gave them hideous metadata. |

I don't use save to disk in anger, the settings at the top of the panel would have been from the last time I played with it to post a 'how to' response to a an earlier question here
I this instance the OP's query was about the file name so I focused on the template BR |
