Problem: Adding metadata to PDFs

Dear all,

It seems my Kindle Paperwhite does not display PDFs with the cover I added in Calibre. Is that a limitation on the Kindle’s side, or am I doing something wrong? I hope you can help me. Thank you in advance for your time and tipps!

I don't believe that PDF files have the concept of a cover. It's a limitation of the format.

ETA: You could, of course, add an in-line image, but it wouldn't be "seen" as a cover.

Dear Susan,

Thank you for your quick response! So it is as I suspected. I would have thought, however, that the metadata, most of which is not stored within the file itself (which I find annoying in other situations) would enable me to include information (e.g. a book cover) that is stored not in the PDF, but in Calibre and could then be sent to the Kindle alongside the PDF file. But then, this might be just my own dream of a system.

Including a cover within the PDF (i.e. to insert a new page with the cover as the first page of the PDF) does not work (at least I didn't get it to work).

Thank you again.

Any other suggestions in this field?

I'd suggest asking in the Calibre forum, although I'm pretty sure the answer will be "you can't do it".

I have never seen a PDF show covers on a Kindle. I don't think the Kindle supports extracting or showing "covers" from PDF. Not even the first-image-as-a-cover trick.
