Wish: Easy link-creation on desktop

I searched if there is a possibility to create a link on the desktop or fix to the taskbar (Windows) to a book opened in the reader or directly from the library. Fixing to the taskbar doesn't work. I only could create a link with commandline options manually from Windows, which is quite a hassle with the long path & filename. TIA

The viewer will remember a history of the books it has opened, so you could just pin the viewer, open it, then select your book.

Of course I tried all kind of things. But I was put off track when I pinned the viewer when opening it from Calibre. It turns out you pin a "calibre working process" which does not start the viewer after closing it. Only when you start the reader directly in Windows you can pin it. You can drag a book from Calibre to the desktop but I don't see a way to make a link in stead of copying it. Of course you can do that with the book itself from explorer but that's a bit of a hassle. Don't forget to select the Calibre reader as your default.

@victor50 - Windows Start Menu->All Programs scroll to and click calibre... E-book management, right click E-book viewer, select Pin to Taskbar or Start Menu or right button drag to desktop and drop a shortcut. To open most recently open files - click the arrow next to the third icon - it's the blue foldery thingy

Not Recommended by me, but if you really must have a shortcut to the book format file on your desktop, press 'o' in calibre, that will open the book folder in your file mangler, right button drag format file to desktop and drop a shortcut. It's your responsibility to set it up the Windows association between the format and the viewer, and fix it when it doesn't work. And its your responsibility to delete the shortcut when your done with it.

And to update the shortcut if the author or title ever gets changed.

Nuh, shortcut names can be different to target names, and providing you don't wilfully disable the DLT service then it will track target renames and moves - including to another system on the same network

Ah.

Linux doesn't do this. I guess because you're supposed to be responsible about them.

You live and learn.

@BetterRed Tx for pointing out the "O" option in Calibre. Could still be useful. I succeeded in pinning as said (In Windows 8.1> "all apps" ) Filemangler LOL.

@eschwartz - Windows Confidential: Why are Shortcuts Files?

NB that's from 2006 so should be "... remember what the working constraints were back 18 to 20 years ago:" - perchance before you were even instantiated
