Template editor

Can I get the template editor directly from the library view, without going to any of the preferences or custom columns?

If not, I'd like to have it, with a life display of the result for the selected books.

The suggested metod in the manual for testing templates is creating a new custom column, but that's quite inconvenient given that I have to restart calibre every time I update the template.

You don't have to create a new custom column every time you want to change the template. Just click inside the custom column with the template you want to edit while in library view and it will bring up the dialogue box for editing the template.

Running windows, I click in the cell showing the value of the column (any line) then press F2.

Also running windows, click once in the column, pause, click a second time and it brings up the editor. Forgot about the second click before as I didn't actually have Calibre open to check.

After the third time I see this advice I realize it probably does not work because I have:

Code:
doubleclick_on_library_view = 'edit_metadata'
which disables in-cell editing, but in my opinion this supports the need for an alternative method to show the template editor. Besides, forcing the creating of an additional column and restarting just to test a template (even if it's only the first time) is a bit clumsy.

(by the way, 'do_nothing' and 'edit_cell' also seem to disable in-cell editing)

That's good, F2 works in linux too.
