Handsome device.

Both Samsung and BN are really feeling the squeeze from competitors though, and smart money says that this does little to bail them out.

Huh...I did not see that one coming. Agreed it's a good looking device, though. I thought B&N was getting out of the tablet game altogether.

They essentially have. I fail to see what benefit this teaming will provide.

I wonder about the pricing on this. If they put out a 10.1" model based on the Galaxy Tab 4 that costs less than the normal version, I might buy it if it has the Play Store.

It does seem a bit odd - why not just by the Tab? So many people bought the Nook's just to root them anyway....

Only reason I can think of would be if B&N is subsidizing on price some so it's cheaper than a regular Tab 4 you'd get at Target, Best Buy, etc. I don't know it they are or have some other incentives to buy their version or not.

I still think it's strange they picked they're "next gen" device as one with a lower ppi (same resolution as my two year old Nexus 7 2012) screen than the current device . More of a sideways move for a user than an "upgrade".

The Galaxy Tab 4 is smaller & lighter than the Nook HD

Nook HD 194.4×127.1×11.0 (mm) ~300g
Galaxy Tab 4 187x108x8.9 (mm) 276.1g

Pretty much the only advantage to the Tab 4.

If I'm buying it for reading, which B&N is going to promote, weight is of course important, but to me the screen is the #1 most important thing. That's not to say that the Tab 4 screen is bad, it'd just be nice to see something with at least the same resolution as the HD.

Isn't it the same as the already-available Galaxy Tab 4? The video is vague, but I doubt there is any earth-shattering information being hidden.

That said, I'm still wondering if this will be very successful. There are reports that tablets have plateaued in the US anyway, and there is little excitement about standard tablets like this.
