I posted for my city. Kindle owners, please do the same! If we spread the word, more people will buy them, and it will only be good for those of who already own them!

Don't make me have to go on tour to show off my 505. I would hate to see all those poor Kindles start living in a closet.

I admit the Kindle is ugly I knew that when I bought it. I was close to buying a Sony but I chose function over form.

![]() That being said, I don't like the idea. We don't work for Amazon and it is their job to promote their PROPRIETARY device. And Kindle is still far from perfect. They should work on improving Kindle and its retain presence. I guess I am just naturally against any of this *apple* type fanboy. Last edited by lovebeta; 05-22-2008 at 02:47 PM. |

I just think that readers are typically helpful people, and we want to show people their options. I don't have a problem with showing someone my Kindle. I tend to be somewhat of an evangelist for products that I really like and use. I think it's a cop-out to say "I won't buy one till I see one" and then say "And I won't look at one unless Amazon is funding the display" too. Every marketer knows that the best advertising is word-of-mouth.

I am a book lover and don't think that an electronic device can provide you with quite the same experience(yet) that a dead-tree book can. Yet, what sold me on the idea is the way that an electronic device can enrich my reading even though it can not reproduce the feel of a book. The simplest method is by way of a dictionary. "Here is a book that has the ability to define every word that is held within its covers." Wow, what a very tangible benefit to reading a book on an electronic device that I would not otherwise have with the dead-tree version. Sony, unfortunately, does not seem to grasp that concept, even on their second try. E-ink displays are great, but they are not paper. If you can not "beat" the feel, look, contrast, etc. of paper then you must provide a set of features that would entice people into using an electronic device for reading. A book with a dictionary built-in, a pen that never runs out of ink and can't be lost, a highlighter that is always handy, and the ability to search your books orders of magnitude faster then if they were dead-tree books. Those features, along with an e-ink display, provide an enrichment to reading that you can't have with a normal paper book. Last edited by formulajay; 05-26-2008 at 03:17 AM. |

I think they just started this feature about a week or two ago. That's the first time I saw it anyway.

Sadly once people started actually trying to use it and realized it really didn't do anything besides show you pages, the spell would be broken. It's like when Paris Hilton opens her mouth. Suddenly not so attractive any more.

![]() I'm weird, I like the look of the Kindle, but that wouldn't have been enough to suck me in. Like you point out Alisa, its all the other good stuff that makes the Kindle. |
