Free (nook/Kindle) You Lost Me: Why Young Christians Are Leaving Church [DIY Faith]

You Lost Me: Why Young Christians Are Leaving Church...and Rethinking Faith by David Kinnaman is an examination of exactly what it says in the title, along with a DIY guide aimed towards reversing the trend, free courtesy of Christian publisher Baker.

Currently free @ B&N, Amazon (available to Canadians and in the UK).

Also showed up free @ Sony (available to Canadians).

Description
Close to 60 percent of young people who went to church as teens drop out after high school. Now the bestselling author of unChristian trains his researcher's eye on these young believers. Where Kinnaman's first book unChristian showed the world what outsiders aged 16-29 think of Christianity, You Lost Me shows why younger Christians aged 16-29 are leaving the church and rethinking their faith.

Based on new research, You Lost Me shows pastors, church leaders, and parents how we have failed to equip young people to live "in but not of" the world and how this has serious long-term consequences. More importantly, Kinnaman offers ideas on how to help young people develop and maintain a vibrant faith that they embrace over a lifetime.

Too bad I'm just now seeing this. I'd enjoy reading it, but not for $10.

As one who left the faith I'm curious if his reasoning matches my experience and if his advice would have been effective in my case.

At the risk of treading into topics best left for the politics and religion subforum, and hopefully not crossing the line, it has been my experience that most Christian authors have no idea what truly drives people into an atheistic position.

It's been two years. It hasn't been free for a long time, but since it's Baker, it may one day repeat (or may already have during a time when I wasn't paying attention).

True, or it may even turn up free again tomorrow. I hadn't noticed at first that the OP was way back in 2012.

Yes... ereaderiq shows it having gone free for just a very brief period of time, and never since.

I personally happened to stumble across this thread due to Mariotwalker's post putting it back in the active threads.

I got it free on May 1, 2012.

To save money, you've sometimes got to be real patient.

Additionally or alternatively, you can read the Amazon Kindle books on your PC or Mac computer by one of at least two apps:
-Kindle for PC
-Kindle Cloud Reader (there's nothing to install, as the name suggests, the reader is in "the cloud" (i.e., on Amazon's computers (in very basic terms)).
See http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.htm...cId=1000493771.

You also can buy a portable reader, such as the Kindle, Kindle Fire, or Kindle HDX, to which you easily can download Kindle books and read them. I am not very familiar with the Fire and HDX, but I'm pretty sure that they may have additional capability, such as the ability to go on the Web. You can use your iPad to read Kindle books, but (this device is also one which I am not familiar with so someone may have to correct me) it may not be as easy as using a Kindle device or one of the apps that I mentioned in the first paragraph. As someone posted, you can go to the iPad forum to learn how to read Kindle books on it.

Oh, and welcome to Mobileread!

I haven't read the book yet, but I feel sure that the author deals with more types of people who have left the faith than just those who have become atheists. I'm sure that he would include people who have, for example, embraced other religions (e.g, Hinduism, Islam) or even a non-evangelical "Christianity" (such as Unitarianism, Mormonism).

Personally, I would love to hear your insight into what drives people into an atheistic position, however. That would be off-topic on this thread and forum, as you suggested. Maybe you would be interested in talking about it on the politics and religion forum, if there is such a thing on Mobileread.

You left out those who have a crisis of faith. Sometimes it isn't a matter of changing religions or becoming an atheist but of having trouble understanding a given circumstance. It does sound like a good topic of debate for the politics/religion board I agree.

We do indeed have a dedicated P&R subforum here at MR. However, it's hidden to protect the delicate sensibilities of that portion of our membership which may be disturbed by or just don't care to be disillusioned by the sight of their fellow e-book lovers squabbling like demented rabid crows fighting over a discarded banana peel*.

So if you want to participate, you have to first join the Hardened Debaters group following the instructions here (there's message at the top of the Lounge to this effect, though you may or may not have clicked the X to dismiss it a long time ago and I don't know if it can easily found by other means) before you can even see the fighting forum.

* I'm mostly joking about this. Mostly.
