How to make "library "search default?
I personally hate that Kobo defaults to bookstore search as default even when it is offline. Does anyone know how to make library search default when using the search bar?

The default changes with the context. If you search from the library lists, it will default to library. But, there is now way to set the default from the home screen in the current firmware. For older firmware, there are patches that can fix this.

Can you explain how you can search from say your Library from the library lists? When I'm viewing my library, I can't bring up any search option at all, only from the home screen.

When I try to use the search from the home screen, it will bring up a box that says "Wi-Fi is currently disabled, would you like to enable Wi-Fi and connect to the Internet?" Of course you don't need the internet to search your library, but when you select "Cancel" at that prompt, it forever keeps popping up the warning box and there's no way to cancel the search. Your only choice is to turn wi-fi on, even when you then select Library from the right side of the search box.

I'm using Firmware 3.5.0.

Tap the top-right of the screen. The search "bar" is displayed along with the other options.

That isn't happening here. I do leave the WiFi on, but when I turn it off and search, I only get prompted if I have "Bookstore" selected and press "Go" to start the search.

I did look there but I totally missed that the "header" there was actually a search box. I chalk it up to my bad bad eyes!

That's not how it works on my Glo. For me the search bar always starts with either Library or Bookstore selected depending on whether I invoke it from the library or homescreen, and it only asks to turn on the WiFi if I enter a bookstore search.

Edit: Perhaps the different behaviour is due to different affiliates?

My affiliate is listed as affiliate=ABA20E2818 in the file, I bought it locally at an independent bookstore, The Book Cellar. I also pushed firmware 3.5.0 to the reader... are you on that version or still on 3.3.0?

On the home screen, I see the same thing in the search "bar". But, when I tap it, it opens a dialog to do the search. This has the bookstore/library choice at the end. It doesn't matter whether the WiFi is on or off when I do this, it just opens the dialog and I can type in the search term and choose the search location. This is 3.5.0, but it has been for all firmware with the tiled home screen.

Try changing the affiliate to "Kobo". That might change things, but forcing the WiFi to be on when searching would be a rude thing to do.

The bar with the faded "Search Kobo" is just a button, when I tap it I get the actual search box with a faded "Title, author or keyword" and a pull-down menu to select Bookstore or Library search. The WiFi prompt doesn't appear at all.

Even with a Bookstore search selected I can enter something in the search box, but I don't get prompted to turn on WiFi until I tap the "Go" keyboard button.

Just tried changing the affiliate to Kobo and I get the same thing. If wi-fi is off, I must connect to be able to do any search and can't cancel the search unless I first let it turn on the wi-fi.

No WiFi is off before I start (I normally keep it turned off), and I don't get prompted to turn it on until I tap "Go" to begin the search.

If WiFi is already on then when I start entering something in the Bookstore search box a pick list appears as I type, but with WiFi off the pick-list doesn't appear so I have to tap "Go" to begin the search.

Chalk it up to another bug then? I can't see any other setting having anything to do with demanding wi-fi be turned on for a library search.

I get the same thing, where it forces me to enable WiFi when I use the search box on the home screen, and it always defaults to a bookstore search. Using the search box from the library view works as it should.

This is on a Kobo Aura with firmware v3.5.0.

I just experienced this forced wifi connect/sync thing going on when pressing on the search bar...

But it only happens whenever I have the "Recommended for You" tile on my homepage, after I just finished syncing and I still haven't dismissed it yet.

I haven't really found a solution to this. Most of the time I just press cancel on the sync after it forced me to connect. That seems to work and not ask to connect to wifi after doing that. But I can't exactly test it when there's no wifi connection available.
