Any PRS-505 is going to have a virtually or completely dead battery these days. Lithium batteries only last around 5-7 years, and the PRS-505 came out in 2007. This is a very, very old device.

There are three used ones currently on Amazon, two of the sellers appear to ship to Canada so that might be an option for you...

Well, yes, if the OP really wants to buy a 505 with a 10-minute battery life, they are certainly available to buy .

The battery can always be changed out with a new one I suppose.

FWIW my 505, bought in 2007 still has a battery life of 3-4 days when in regular use by my nephew.

What was it originally, though? A month? Its capacity is going to have fallen massively in 7 years. Hardly the "mint condition" that the OP wants.

As you say, the battery can be changed, but why on Earth bother? If the user actually wants a red Sony, buy the current PRS-T3, which is still sold, and is also available in red.

I'll have to agree with Harry on this one. My 505, bought in '08 only lasts for about an hour and a half without being plugged in.
I understand the rationale for wanting a red reader, but bear in mind that skins can be purchased for virtually any device on the market. Perhaps a new T3 skinned with a custom Fire Department logo or something similar might suit your needs better.

It looks like Tiger Direct has them. Apparently new, with full 12 month Sony warranty, for $53.97, plus S/H.

EDIT: Well, crud, didn't realize you were in Canada, until I read a little deeper into the post. Do you have family or friends in the U.S.?

Thank you so much!
I understand prs505 is old, but I have been used it for years. Wish to make a pair with my gf and without need to learn any new tricks on new devices. Man I am getting old Thanks for the reply!

Never purchase from Tigerdirect. I will take a look now.

Regarding to the new T3, are the text clarity and responsiveness really that much better to enhance the pure reading experience?

The "Pearl" eInk screen used on modern readers has dramatically better contrast than the older screen on the 505.

Sony has, however, like Elvis - left the building.

Since you're entrenched in the Sony world, you may only feel comfortable in that world.

Too bad you missed the Sony T2 on sale for $29.99, although that wasn't a red-colored reader.

I think you can still get the Sony T2, as a packaged sale, for $79.99 (but not red), also from TigerDirect.

Good luck on your search and on your choice.

In Canada, I believe you can get a new T3 for $99. That's the one I recommend, over the 505.

If you really must buy a Sony, then I agree. Get a T3.

Just phoned Tigerdirect, the rep replied rather rudely that they ship items anywhere in the world "except" Canada from US. I don't have anyone down the states. Anyone know a trustworthy reship company?

You guys are right. taking the shipping into account, the final is about the same as buying a brand new T3 from sonystore.ca. I did have chance to experience with kobo aura HD in Chapters yesterday. It does look a bit sharper, less black-outs, and lighter backgroud white than 505. It's $169, how is it quality wise compare to the $99 T3?

The biggest innovation that's occurred with eInk readers in the last couple of years is the introduction of built-in lighting, which absolutely transforms the reading experience, and allows you to read in poor (or no) light. Unfortunately, Sony are about the only company in the industry whose current devices don't have lighting. I would recommend against buying from Sony for this reason - the front-lit devices are so very much better.
