Which 5-6" e-reader has the best contrast?

Hello,

My Cybook Opus has terrible contrast so I want something better.

+ E-book reader with e-ink (no tablet)
+ 5" or 6" screen size
+ Best contrast (no integrated light, it makes the contrast worse - I only read in daylight)
+ Sideloading e-books (Calibre), no Wi-Fi needed or store eco-system

I can't speak for what I haven't seen, but of all the eBook readers I've personally handled, the one with the sharpest screen and best contrast is the Kindle K4 (Black, 2012 version) -- which has just been replaced with a newer, touch model Kindle Basic with poorer contrast. There are still some of the K4 Blacks available (at Staples for one) but I wouldn't hold off too long if you want a new one.

Personal experience and testing. I've posted links to a couple pictures in another thread. (The one on the New Kindle Basic.)

I have to agree with this. The last basic Kindle (the 5-button) has a fantastic combination of tuned font, background color, and resolution/contrast. It isn't fancy, but dang does it work.

The next closest e-reader that I have viewed personally is the current Nook GlowLight. It's not quite there... but it is the closest, in my opinion, beating out the Paperwhite fairly easily in my eyes.

(The PW always makes me feel like my eyes are slightly not focused correctly) (I should point out that my experience with e-readers only includes Kobo, Sony, Amazon, and Barnes, so I can't talk about things outside of that range)

For a 6" Reader, the Kindle Voyage should provide good contrast with the newest version of the Carta screen.
