CC Demo (free) Version V3.4.1 has been published

A free demo version of CC has been published on the Google Play store. This demo version is fully functional except that it is limited to 10 books on the device. The intent is to permit people to try-before-buy CC. Users can verify that it connects to calibre on their network and that it does what we say it does and what they want. The demo version is not time limited. If a user is able to live with the 10-book limitation, there is no requirement that he or she ever upgrade to the full version.

Upgrading to the full version of CC requires buying it. There is no in-app upgrade path.

Publishing this version is a bit of an experiment for us. It could be that having the limited version hurts us more than it helps, especially as relates to reviews. We will see.

Might I suggest that everyone who likes the full version check out the limited version as well. If you like it, perhaps leave a review about it.

Running the two versions on the same device works. CC_Demo and CC do not share a database. However, there might be some confusion about what is in your library and some possible cross-impact. To make upgrading easier we chose the same default library folder (Calibre_Companion). If someone upgrades then the scan for new books will pick up the up-to-10 books already there. However, if you already are using that folder for the full version and have more than 10 books in it, then on the first connect (the scan for new books) CC_Demo will pick 10 books seemingly at random. If you delete a book using CC_Demo then the book file is really gone. It will become a "Book with missing files" in CC.

Bottom line: I suggest that you change the library folder for CC_Demo if you are also running CC on the same device.

I am confused about what is happening. I can't find it on the store with a search, but the direct URL works for me: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ultipie.ccdemo. Perhaps the play store takes a longer time for new apps. Or perhaps there is something else going on. Who knows.

Maybe it needs a day or two to propagate. I downloaded it and really liked it. Definitely a 5-star app.
