CC Prerelease V3.4.0h

CC prerelease 3.4.0h has been published and will available soon to people who are members of the CC prerelease program.

This prerelease contains the following new features and changes over CC V3.4.0e/f:
  • Add backup and restore settings
  • Add a "Reset" button to select items in book details.
  • Improvements in connection help
  • [BUG FIX]Fix permanent progress spinner on some devices.

This release does not have any database upgrades.

I know I have said this before, but I really do intend that this release be the basis for the next production release. I expect that some changes might be needed in backup/restore settings after user comments, but I hope that is it.

That's it. I make no more suggestions until this release is released. You have no self-control, young man.

Also, thanks.

Actually, I did this now mostly for me.

I have wasted hours reconstructing settings because I must test after reinstalling to test upgrades and the like. I also need known settings to test certain features such as grouping custom columns. I must reinitialize to test the demo version, the kindle version. etc. It was the right time.

And you are welcome.

If you change the name of one of the User defined sorts, you have to exit the program before it shows up in the Menus/settings/etc.

If you change the name, and then turn on the checkbox to show the sort in the menu before you have exited and relaunched, and then go to the book list, you will make CC crash, and then it will re-crash every time you launch the program. I would send you a log, but it crashes as soon as I launch it. Is there any way around this, or do I have to uninstall and reinstall? I thought of clicking on a saved set of settings in the hope that it would load and apply them, but it didn't work.

On a side note, it might be nice to be able to move the items in the sort menu so that you can move the User defined sorts (which presumably the user will be using a lot) to the top of the list.

Hi Charles,

I tested the new backup/restore settings feature, and it appears to work fine (only tested the "backup" part). I won't be using it much as I have Titanium Backup which backs up and restores Calibre and its settings just fine. However, I have a request regarding the selection of system folders within CC, both for backing up settings and storing books. Is it possible to make it easier to navigate to the external SD card where I keep my books and would want to backup any settings? Currently, I have to enter any path to the external SD card manually. Couldn't there be an easy way to keep jumping up a level till I get to the external card's parent folder like many other apps provide?' Or is it already there and I'm just not seeing it?

I was going to comment on saving settings to the external sd card as well. On my T68, the menu allows for this in book formats and folders using the "Go to folder button".

I can't make this fail in the way you describe. Nor can I make the names not show up, but that is a separate issue.

Looking at the crash reports, I am seeing a situation where it seems that one of the user defined sorts references itself, creating an infinite recursion. Did you do that? If so then I will make a release for you that cleans it up.

Its possible. I was testing what might happen if I named one with one of the built in names (which seemed to work ok). I might have accidentally re-used that name when I was messing around.

I would appreciate a build although I apologize for giving you extra work. I would hate to have to reinstall and copy all my books again.

Thanks.

Link to release sent. And don't apologize. Because of what you did I found a bug. You are the one who suffered the inconvenience.

I specifically do not allow backing up to the SD card. It won't do good things on Kitkat and later, especially given that Android would delete the backup if the app is deleted. Given that Kitkat is now 45% of our installed base (and growing quickly) I made the decision to force putting the backup in main memory, a place that won't disappear. The user can move it to an SD card or stick it in some cloud storage folder.

Ooops, sorry, forgot to mention that. Yes, it did fix it. I am up and running with no issues now.

By the way, my thanks to everyone who championed the custom sorting. I don't use author and title sort any more. Its all Author/Series/Title or Series/Title now.
