Turn on to book instead of menu?

Hey there,

I'm using a stock firmware (latest I think).

Currently I switch the device on and it goes straight to the main menu.

Is there any way to resume reading the last book straight away instead?

I don't mind changing firmware if there is a custom one that does this.

Thanks in advance

Why not just put the device to sleep rather than power off?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

I hadn't realized that I was powering off completely instead of sleeping... it does resume the book after sleep mode. Feeling quite dim now...

Does sleep mode use a lot more power? Or any power? I'd be happy to just put it to sleep instead.

Is there any way of changing it to display the last read book after it's been powered off?

No hacks exist to start on a given book. It might be possible (but i have no experience) that one of the alternate readers (either CoolReader or KOReader) might have that ability, but I've never looked at either one. Hopefully one of those who use them will see this and chime in.

As far as power usage goes, it's very very low in sleep mode.

Sleep mode does indeed use very little power. I also like that the books cover is displayed while in sleep. That's one reason I use a regular cover for my glo instead of one of the sleep covers. Can anyone recommend a favorite non sleep glo cover?

Both Koreader and Coolreader alternative reading software offers options that include opening in the current book. There are now several launching/initial menu options, including a menu to select starting in Nickel (Kobo's UI) or Koreader or other programs.

The current normal practice for launching the alternative readers is to do so using Sergey's KoboLauncher and/or the included fmon, to launch from the Nickel home page. As of the most current build of the KoboLauncher you can set it to open in Coolreader, and you can have the Coolreader options set to open in the current ebook.

A properly functioning suspend function (the sleep function) uses next to no power, as the CPU, wireless, and touchscreen are all suspended.

Luck;
Ken

I have installed Koreader (latest version) + Fmon (latest version) and am quite happy with them, execpt that I'm not sure that when I slide the power button and the last read page freezes, superimposed on it a suspend dialogue box, is normal functioning and the power usage -as you said- would be next to none?

Right, that is the normal Koreader suspend. If you use Tshering's Kobo Start Menu, you can start Koreader with none of the background functions of the Kobo user interface (UI) - Nickel, running. That saves a little more. (Things seem a little quicker that way as well, but that could just be subjective.)

OK, that's a relief. Is there a way to make Koreader display ebook cover or a specific image instead of the last read page when it goes to suspension?
Besides I believe the way Nickel handles the epubs is better than Koreader, since the figures in the epubs are displayed horribly pallid in Koreader. But for reading PDFs of all kinds, it's fantabulous. It even exceeds my expectations when it comes to PDF.
