Magazines and Newspapers on the Kobo Touch

As this is my first post here, let me say thanks in advance for all the help I have gotten by reading these forums. I have a Sony Reader (PRS 600), Motorola Xoom, and Ipod touch, all of which I have used for ebooks. I have used calibre in Windows and Ubuntu to add magazines and newspapers to my Sony Reader. I bought a Kobo touch yesterday because it has such a nice screen (Pearl eInk) and also has Wifi capabilities. I have looked at the Sony products because I like the touch feature on my current Sony Reader. The Kobo touch looked like it had it all, great screen, touch interface, great price. I have been buying books from Kobo for over a year now for my Sony. Anyway, I was looking forward to buying magazines or newspapers for the Kobo Touch eReader. Everything I have read says that this is a supported feature. I bought a subscription to a magazine last night. I synced through the desktop app on Windows, I synced the device using wifi while disconnected from the computer, tried each several times. No magazine shows up on the device. When I navigate to the Library, News & Mags section, the screen is the one that directs me to go to the kobo website to purchase subscriptions or get free trials. I spoke to Kobo customer support a few times, and most recently they had me do a factory reset. When I connected the reader to the computer to do the setup, everything seemed to go ok, and my books were synced to the reader. When I look on the desktop app, it shows 3 subscriptions (the one I bought yesterday, and 2 other free trials I got today), When I sync the desktop app (without the touch connected), it tells me that it is downloading the two free trials, but then when I connect the touch to the computer and sync again, nothing is transferred. And if I sync the touch using wifi, it syncs my awards and other reading life stuff, but no magazines. Am I doing something wrong? |

No, you are not. That should work as you're expecting. Can you please try doing a Sync from the Kobo Touch and let me know if the subscription gets transferred?

I have done several wifi syncs, usb syncs, signed out of desktop and when I sign in again all the magazines are transferred to desktop app, but when I sync (both USB and Wifi) nothing is transferred to the Touch.

I notice on the Kobo Getsatisfaction website that someone else has reported the same problem. The ticket number is #347281.

At one point one of the Kobo staff posted on the use of a Windows tool called DbgView to see some debugging data logged by the Desktop. Take a look at https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...5&postcount=12 Capture the trace and then post it here. |

That would be my ticket. I am having the exact problem. The magazines show up on my iPad, desktop, rooted NC, yet not on my KT. No matter how I try to sync the thing.

Okay, I am not sure what the debug log file means, but I tried this as well. I signed out of Kobo Desktop, closed Kobo Desktop, started debug, started Kobo Desktop again, signed in and it downloaded all my content to Kobo Desktop, including the magazine subscriptions. Then I connected the Touch, and synced again. I will attach the log file below for this. Again I appreciate any help you can offer. I feel a little better that I am not the only one with this problem, but I would like some idea that there will be a resolution soon. And yes, some, but not all of the magazines show up on my ipod touch. |

Again, thanks for your input. I have been on the phone with customer support for several hours today. No resolution. I am beginning to think this is a software/firmware problem. Just wondering if anyone who had this problem has been helped? Has anyone successfully subscribed to a magazine or newspaper using the Touch?

I just signed up for a trial subscription. Nothing downloaded to the Touch. An immediate fix is definitely needed. If it can't make it into the next scheduled firmware update, then soon after please.

I wonder if this is an issue only for folks in the United States.

Signed up for another subscription. No luck, same thing. Not publication related.

I've had a National Post subscription since they were first available on the Wifi. I have had occasional issues with an individual days paper not downloading, but nothing to this degree. I have been using it on the Touch since I got it and it's been fine.
