Conversion and Marketplace Questions

Hello! We are considering using calibre as our e-book converter. We are interested in converting some of our titles to e-books that we can post and make available on our own website. However, we are also interested in making the e-books available on the Amazon and Ibooks marketplace. Are these things that we can use calibre to do? If so, where could I find some helps as to how best to do this? Thanks!

Read the references in the help http://calibre-ebook.com/help section for ideas.
Spend some time reading the specific format topics here at MR about issues dealing with those you mention above.

Sometimes it is better to hire the job done (initially?) to get to market quickly while you grow your own capability.
There are a number of 'Pros' that hang out (and HELP OUT). here.

You can use calibre for conversion between different formats, as well as the editor for directly tweaking the HTML in your EPUBs. There are lots of useful tools built in, including code validation. The editor can import DOCX, which is helpful too.

I'd suggest using kindlegen to submit your finished EPUBs to Amazon though, instead of calibre-made MOBI/AZW3 -- Amazon gets touchy about using their tools.

As theducks said, there is a community of professional and semi-professional ebook-makers who hang out here on MobileRead and are usually pretty helpful (although Hitch cannot give out any trade secrets, naturally ). Also, there is a lot of information here about various issues that can come up in ebooks.

@sbtscomm - it would he useful to know the 'formats' you have at hand - e.g. MS Word, OO Writer, InDesign, LaTeX, PDF, Postscript etc.
