1st time user of Calibre

I'm confused. I have books I've purchased from Amason, Barnes and Noble and even a ton of books on my bluefire app on my iphone 5. Do I need to make a folder on my computer harddrive, download all the books there and then import them into Calibre???

Yes, you will need to download them to your hard drive. You don't need a specific folder set up for this. When you add a book to Calibre, it makes a copy in Calibre's internal library and leaves the original alone. Feel free to archive it or delete it.

Keep in mind that most books you purchase will have DRM, making them unreadable in Calibre. There are ways to strip out the DRM, but we can't discuss it here. I heard there's an apprentice named Alf who might be able to help you, though.

Just a minor clarification:
Calibre CAN store and index books with DRM, it just can't update the books or view them directly.
You can use the 'Open With' plugin to launch alternate book installed viewers. eg Adobe Digital Editions

How do I save books to my computer?

Transfer books from your device to your computer using iTunes File Sharing and these steps:

1. Connect your device to your computer and access it under "iPad / iPhone / iPod" in the upper right of your iTunes screen.

2. Once selected, you should see a button for "Apps" in the main iTunes screen. Please select it.

3. From the "Apps" screen, scroll to the bottom where you will see a section labeled "File Sharing," and you should see the Bluefire Reader icon.

4. Select the Bluefire Reader icon, and you will be able to see all of the books in your Bluefire Reader library.

5. Highlight all of the books in your library, and click the "Save To" button, and save the books to a location of your choice on your computer.
You might need some help from Apprentice Alf after that.
